PFC Neil Brown began his tour in the Republic of Vietnam with 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, D Company.

Killed in action — May 2, 1969
PFC Brown was killed on 2 May 1969 during Operation Montana Raider in War Zone C (Tay Ninh province), while serving with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry. A fellow trooper's account recalls "an explosion on 2May69, followed by a brief firefight in which Neil Brown was killed"; afterward John Lee (Range, 68–69) and Chuck Hustedt carried him out of very thick bush.
