PFC Fast was killed on 19 August 1968 by small arms fire in Thua Thien Province, Republic of Vietnam, during 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry operations in the vicinity of LZ Carol (Hill 927). He had been in-country for 26 days. He was 20 years old.
