SP4 Golden was killed on 20 August 1968 by small arms fire in Thua Thien Province, Republic of Vietnam, during 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry operations in the vicinity of LZ Carol (Hill 927). He was 24 years old. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, Douglas County, Wisconsin.
