Commanded D Company — 4 Nov 1965 action near Position Cavalair, Pleiku Province
As commanding officer of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, Capt. Linton directed the company's part in the 4 November 1965 action near Position "Cavalair" (grid 979049) during the Pleiku Campaign. The fight opened with the D Company Reconnaissance patrol (Lt Ward) and drew in successive elements — "Buckeye," "Flanker Right," "Right Guard" (A Co), and C Co — against a company-plus PAVN force in a rest area. He prepared and signed the battalion's after-action report two days later, recommending decorations for his troopers, including posthumous Bronze Stars with "V" for the three D Company men killed (SGT Coffey, CPL Hill, PFC Hamill) and a Bronze Star with "V" for the wounded senior medic, SP/4 David "Doc" Wilson.
